Our Kindness Patrol is currently working on a service learning project. They have encouraged each class to write Thanksgiving letters to our service members, who will not be at home this holiday season.
Each child left their letter in the comment section. Great job everyone!
Red Ribbon Week October 24-28

Monday- Sock it to Drugs: Students wear their craziest socks.
Tuesday- Walk the Walk: Students will walk the track to indicate number of years they will remain healthy and drug free. We will listen to a guest speaker read The Story of Hope.
Wednesday- Team up Against Drugs: Students wear their favorite college/university team jersey or shirt. We will collect canned goods and non-perishable food items and donate to local food pantries.
Thursday- Turn Your Back on Drugs: Students wear their shirts backwards.
Friday- I’d Rather Eat Bugs Than Do Drugs: Students may dress up as their favorite bug or wear a shirt with bugs on it. PTA will host a Bingo/Taco Dinner night at the school beginning at 6PM in the school’s Nutrition Lab.
Discovering Genres

Kettle Bones Writing

Last week in Writing students were given a story starter and were encouraged to focus on adding creative details to make their Halloween story come alive. They are very proud of their work and will be displayed in our hallway the month of October. Please take a minute to read…
Students began with a Story Board of events, before writing and editing their Rough Draft. Their final drafts were typed in Word using our Laptop Lab here at school.
Last Night As I Was Passing The Graveyard…when I heard a terrible shrieking noise coming through the bushes. Being curious and not one who is easily scared I decided to take a peek. So I hopped over the fence and began to make my way towards the direction of the blood curdling sound. The shrieking continued and seemed to get louder as I moved closer. I could see a large, imposing shadow on a tomb in the moonlight. Careful not to let who or what was making the noise see me, I climbed a nearby tree. As I positioned myself to get a better look, the limb on which I was sitting snapped. I began to fall to the ground and my life flashed before my eyes, surely this beast, this ogre would see me now. As I continued my fall, the shrieking noise turned into more of a beep. Beep, Beep, Beep! And just then I woke up to my alarm clock, realizing the whole time I was dreaming. By Mrs. K
I Know the House on the Corner is haunted because…I saw it. I am a detective I will fill you in on it here we go. It all started one spooky night. I saw two armed zombies! Then they chopped the door down and attacked I smashed the head off one the other sliced my jacket off. I ran to the grave yard where I found Sam, Tristan, and Evert. Together we climbed the deathly clock tower and skydived to our doom!!! We landed near a pile of shot guns. We attacked. Then suddenly we were out numbered when suddenly Mario randomly smashed through a wall and smashed all the zombies. We all ran away and lived happily ever after. By Aiden
This Morning On My Way To School I Found A Magic Ring…I was dared to pick up a deadly magic ring walking on my way to school. Then weird things started to happen. It got so weird, my friends started to tell everyone about me picking up a deadly magic ring and weird stuff happening to me. Also they showed the deadly magic ring to their other friends. Then they stored it in a treasure chest. After they buried the deadly magic ring, someone found the place and dug it up the treasure chest. He owned the deadly magic ring. By Allan
My Best Halloween Costume I Ever Saw …My friend George didn’t do Halloween last year he didn’t want to he was saving up for a creepy spooky costume this year he is going to be a mummy. He wanted to be a mummy because he was studying mummy at school he learned that mummies are dead bodies he said EWW but cool. Then George walked to a house they left a bowl of candy out they took all the candy the person walked out and said take one piece. She was a witch with a wart on her nose and one tooth. His friend walked with George lost his candy and a car ran over it. The car had a weird teen in the car. Finally they walked home and just passed out candy because they went through a lot. BY: Amanda
The Best Halloween Costume I Ever Saw….I was at a spooky door, I rang the doorbell. It was a spooky, scary, haunted ring. Then all of the sudden a ghost comes out. I screamed as loud as I could, like a little girl. I ran to a creepy place and I said,” Where am I?” Finally somebody answered. It was the zombie of Michael Jackson. I was confused at first, but then I was scared. But he just laughed and asked,” Do you like my dress?” I said,” No” but he just got one of his high heels and threw it at me. I was sad because it hit me in the eyeball, but luckily that eyeball was fake. By Brianna
The recipe for a Magic Potion is…Two bones, five spiders, one pumpkin, and ten pieces of candy corn. At last I said. I’m finally done! Then, my black cat Steve jumped in my potion when I wasn’t looking. I took a glass cup from the kitchen, and put some of my potion in the cup. Right when I was just about to drink my potion, Steve jumped out of my pot onto me, and I screamed “Steve”! The potion was spilled all over my clothes, but to bad I said. I went to change my clothes, but while I was doing that Steve got thirsty, and drank my magic potion. When I got back, Steve wasn’t there. Steve, where are you? Steve was invisible! Steve knew that too so he started doing, bad stuff. He ripped the furniture. Whatever Steve thought would come true. Steve thought of the spider decorations, and they came to life. Then, he remembered the bat stuffed animals being held by string around the house, and they started flying around the house. The ghost lamps we had started to fly through walls. We also saw skeleton bone hands pop up where the fake RIP signs were. Soon, all of this spooky stuff went out of control. Then, I found Steve, and put him in the potion. Then everything went back to normal. Finally Halloween started to come around, and I ran out there quickly because that cat was out of control. By Claire

He started trying to chop my head off with its scythe. I fell in a trap hole. I had to escape an angry mob of zombies. There I saw a magic staff and I grabbed it to blast the zombies away. The Recipe For A Magic Potion Is…One night someone decided to make a magic potion. I happened to walk in a secret lair and in the distance I heard a bubbling cackling sound. When I happened to walk around the corner and I saw the ugliest, grossest, weirdest witch off all. She was gross! Then I saw her add some kind of round object to the potion it kind of looked like an eyeball but I didn’t know. So I almost screamed but I stopped myself. I got nervous because she heard me and started to come around the corner toward me. I ran before she saw me. The witch went back and so did I to watch. She added two bottles filled with something it bubbled even more, she drank it. It made her blow up like a balloon and she came toward me and I ran home! I went to bed was okay and I said to myself that was an interesting night. The next morning I woke up and went back where I was last night and it was not there! So I realized it all was a dream. This morning on my way to school I found a magic ring…One day a sad, sad day I was walking to school and I found a ring. It said “magic ring “I put on the ring and walked to school. This morning on the way to school I found a magic ring . . .It was floating above the concrete. The ring had a glowing ring on top. I grabbed the ring and put it on my finger. I tried taking it off the ring but it wouldn’t come off. So I ignored it and went to class. I got to class I told every body about the floating ring and that it was magical. But none of my friends believe me. Then I remembered about the ring floating. I looked at the ring and noticed that it was glowing bright red! I got scared and didn’t know what to do. I raised my hand toward the teacher but suddenly she disappeared. I ran toward her desk only she had been turned into a frog. As I reached for the frog it hopped out of the chair and right out the class room door. Suddenly my finger started to burn and the ring became heavy. Then I watched the ring melt off my finger, fell on the floor then disappeared. Suddenly the teacher walked back in class and said she had a bad day dream. Class finished as normal and school ended. The recipe for a magic potion is…I was dared to go into a three hundred year old house by my brother Tristan. I heard it had collapsed ten years ago. I entered. I put my foot in a humongous cauldron. My foot tingled and it hurt! Then it shrunk! Then, I ran out. I found a magic ring. I heard magic rings are dangerous so I put it in the cauldron. I ran outside and Tristan was there. He put all of this soda in there. Next, I put the soda in the cauldron. Finally I ran out, but there were bugs. Then I swatted them. I put them in the cauldron. Last night as I was passing the graveyard …A zombie popped out of his grave and groan. Then I yelled back home. When I was at home I went to bed. After that was over it was morning and I told my parents what happened yesterday and they did not believe me. So they went with me, and the zombie was gone. Later that evening we had to go to church. The Best Halloween Costume I Ever Saw Was…Last year I did not do Halloween but this year I want to be the creepiest, weirdest, scariest costume ever so I was. It all started when I was riding my bike at camp. I staid at camp for 5 days. I had a blast. There is a lake, chapel, critter shack, craft shack, an abandon cabin #10 someone had died in it thousands of years ago. I had bad luck that year. That was the year I was in cabin #10.The next year I was passing the critter shack and I fell and fell. I landed in a lare where I saw a warlock he was creating an outfit that looked like a witch/ogar/Cyclops with five heads and five legs. I stole it and I crawled up a 100 ft cliff I made it out. After five days I went home. It was finally Halloween I entered the scariest costume contest and I won. By Elliott
This morning on the way to school I found a magic ring… First I waked to school and it was hunted, my friends dared me to go in the school so I did, there was a deadly magic ring, in my class room, Mr. spooky put a spell on the ring. And his wife put a spell on the whole school. And they all fell a sleep and then I went in to school the next day and I saw Mr. spooky, Mrs. Spooky were putting a spell on my friends. Last Night As I was Passing the Graveyard…I saw the musician Michael Jackson teaching moaning zombies how to sing and dance to the Monster Mash! I was so scared because the zombies were looking at me! The next day, I went by the grave yard and saw Michael again with the zombies who turned into people. There was a boy and there was a girl and they were all dancing. I had an idea! The next day as I was walking to school I walked past the graveyard and went in. I said to Michael” Can I dance with your team?” “Sure.”, said Michael. We sure need an encouraging person like you!” Then I knew my plan was working. So that night was Halloween and they and I performing. My idea was to get everyone I knew and gather around the graveyard. My plan worked and the performance was great and everyone lived happily ever after! By Maddie
The Best Halloween Costume I Ever Saw….. It was one of the most funniest, happiest, scariest nights of my life. It was Halloween and I was at my grandmother’s house. It was one of the biggest, oldest, houses but it was the best Halloween party ever. Later, everyone came and we all wanted to play one of the hardest games we could play, hide and go seek! Somehow we settled on me being the seeker. I had to count to 300 because there were 700kids and 900adults! I said, ready or not here I come. Next, I went from room to room and when I was done with the13th floor I had found 127 people! So they all set out into groups except me. I was all by myself but I kept looking and looking. Then finally I came to a door it read; I’m a terrifying monster come in if you dare but I do promise one thing you’ll come out with no hair! Of course I would never fall for such a silly trick. So I opened the door and I saw the scariest thing’s I had ever seen. It had red skin, and black eyes, horns plus a tail! I wanted to scream but it was no use. So we both just sat there both scared to death. Finally, I asked, who are you? He did not reply by the took off his mask. And I said, Oh you must be a guest! I’m Emma, what’s your name? He still did not reply, but the only thing I said for the rest of the night was HELP!!! My friends and family never stopped looking for me yet I was never found. By Emma
Making Appropriate Choices

Mrs. Pettigrew, one of our Guidance Counselors, challenged us to make a poster/banner about Making Appropriate Choices, which happens to be an important part of our Eagles Pledge here at Greenbrier. Each child traced their hand to display an example of making an appropriate choice. I think it turned out wonderfully!
